Projects

We feel like we have done so many projects and things in our home since we moved in in February. We have replaced the appliances, drain field, and air conditioner, and put up a fence. Whew! Well, when you have an older home, I suppose I never ends. We have just took on another project.

We have taken out the carpet in the living room, dining room, and hallway. We had terrazzo underneath which is so nice but a very difficult and tedious job. First, you have to rip out the carpet and padding. Then, you have to break the tack strips in small sections as to not rip the nails out of the floor beacuse it will crack. Then, there are large nails left in the floor after the tack strips are removed. The nails have to be sawed down to the level of the floor and cannot be completely removed or pulled out because it will crack the floor. Why anyone would put carpet over a beautiful, expensive terrazzo floor in the first place baffles me. Rick has worked diligently over the last few weeks and has finished all these steps. Now, we have to clean up the carpet in the doorways of the bedrooms and put the metal divider strips down. After this is done, we are going to hire a friend from church that owns a floor cleaning and restoration company to use his big, specialized machinery to get the carpet glue up and buff the surface of the floor. We can't wait to see the final product. No more dirty carpet, just clean, sanitary terrazzo! Wahoo!

I, Stacy, started my own project this week as well. I found this cool tree graphic and decided to paint it on the wall in the nursery. So, I went to Kinko's and got the graphic put on a transparency. Then, I borrowed a projector from the church and used the transparency to trace the image on the wall. I traced it and went to Home Depot and picked out the three colors for the tree. Today I painted the trunk, branches, and the majority of the leaves. It was tedious but fun. The leaves are the same colors and similar shapes as the leaves on the curtains in the nursery. So cute! I can't wait to finish it up and see the final product. I hope to finish this weekend. If so, pictures will be posted soon!
